Ben Is Back And His Senior Session Was Another First For Us!

Yes Ben is back!  You may remember Ben from his spokesmodel photos representing the class of 2017 back in May, and now it’s time to share some highlights from his senior session – what was cool about this session (aside from Ben himself and his mom Gina who is a friend of ours) was that like the previous senior we just posted it was marked by a new location for us.  We had heard about Shiawassee Park in Farmington and driven past it over the years but we never thought to shoot there.  Well we can say now that it’s really nice and this was a great first for us!

Ben Is Back…

Don’t let the title mislead you by the way – Ben never “left” and we see Ben a lot actually, but this is his return to the blog and it starts with this shot in Farmington Hills:

Ben

Cool huh?  What a cool dude.

We also have plenty of behind the scenes fun from our day and while we are focusing on the location photos from the session here we also spent some time in the studio which you can see from this replay of our Periscope broadcast.  You can download the app and follow us there at this link, or you can just watch from Twitter at this link – either way be sure to follow us at @FrameableFaces!

Meanwhile we mentioned Shiawassee Park before and now it’s time to share a couple of photos from that location.  First with this neat spot at a bridge over the creek…

Ben

So awesome!!!  Ben and our daughter Lacey are pretty close friends so we know Ben pretty well and we were having fun at this point!  Ben is a cool guy too – he’s a pilot!  Yes – of planes…!

Here’s another, this time close up:

Ben

Here is the other behind the scenes broadcast we have to share – this time from Facebook Live!

Moving right along we left Shiawassee and headed to a blue door Ally had in mind, and we’ll leave you with this one…

BenDig it.

And that’s it!   Ben was back and in a big way – awesome times and a great session with this guy.  We hope you enjoyed the highlights of our day!

Quinn And Our Quest For Quality Locations On Her Senior Session!

Quinn is a Qaracter (see what I did there?).  Haha – a character in the best way!  She’s smart, funny, unique and beautiful and she was totally into this session!  She made it a lot of fun to photograph her and her mom Linda is kind of awesome too.  We laughed a lot on this session and most notably for us we found several new spots to photograph in Birmingham that were right under our noses but we never noticed them!  Our quest was surely a success and we’re excited to share the highlights!!!

First in the studio…

We started in the studio but that doesn’t mean the photo we have here is any less uniquely Quinn – we hadn’t quite used this combination before with this floor, this chair, and the black backdrop…  Love this:

Quinn

The browns and earth tones – so cool!  She looks fantastic!

We also have our behind the scenes broadcast replays from our day – first on Periscope from the studio, and if you want to be a part of our shows there you can download the link and follow us at @FrameableFaces here, or if you just want to watch from twitter you can do that as well!

Quinn and our Quest…

Here’s where it even gets more fun – we headed to Birmingham for the location photos and Ally just happened to notice that there was actually a pretty cool fence at the edge of a parking lot we use all the time.  It’s perfect!  It’s “Quinn’s Fence” now since that’s how we roll – we name new spots after the senior who pioneered them!

QuinnAwesome.

Here is the broadcast from this portion of the session (kinda funny – a couple of Howard Stern Show references and a couple salty drivers…) this time from Facebook Live!

We also found another spot we walk by all the time – a door behind glass that gives a cool effect and, well – Quinn is just a pro….

Quinn

At this point we headed over to Quarton Lake (no not an excuse to get another Q word in here lol) to get a few more shots with what light we had left – the conditions were great and the lighting perfect…  Here is the Periscope replay:

…and here is the amazing result!

Quinn

So there it is.  A successful quest with Quinn indeed to produce a spectacular session!  We hope you enjoyed the highlights of our day with her!

Sahana’s Senior Session Is Pure Sunshine And Splendor!

Sahana’s senior session was pure sunshine and splendor and it comes as no surprise – we have known Sahana for years and we had been looking forward to the day when we would have her here as a senior!  She is a sweetheart and a talented violinist to boot.  We also love when we have the chance to photograph traditional clothing – in this case an Indian half saree which is so colorful!  So we have studio, sunshine, and certainly splendor so let’s get to it!

Sahana’s Senior Session…

Sahana’s mom Sandya came along for the session and she is wonderful too so we were in for a great day.  We started in the studio and went with a couple different outfits and backdrops.  We’ll start with the black background:

Sahana's Senior Session

Beautiful – and we haven’t even gotten to the “sunshine and splendor” yet!  Haha…

We also have plenty of behind the scenes fun from the live broadcasts we did that day.  First our Periscope broadcast from the studio – if you want to be a part of our shows you can download the twitter-owned app and follow us at @FrameableFaces at this link, or if you just want to watch from twitter you can follow us here:

Here’s one more photo from the studio on the white backdrop – loving the ripped white jeans on white look!

Sahana's Senior Session

And here is the Facebook Live broadcast from the studio before we head out on location…  🙂

Now it’s time to head out for the:

Pure Sunshine And Splendor!

First we have this wonderful close up – the conditions and the lighting were just right and Ally captured this gorgeous shot of Sahana!  Love that bit of backlight on her hair!

Sahana's Senior Session

We also had some fun with another broadcast outdoors on Periscope while Sahana was in the outfit above:

….and last but not least we have the colorful splendor of the traditional Indian half saree for this wonderful photo!!!

Sahana's Senior Session

So there you have it!  The pure sunshine and splendor of Sahana’s senior session!  We hope you enjoyed the highlights of our day!

Hey Hey Haley – Your Senior Pictures Are Highly Awesome!

Hey hey Haley!  We are excited to have this girl on our blog!  Another long time friend of our daughter’s whom we’ve known for years, Haley is a sweetheart and our families are friends.  So this was another one of those surreal sessions which seems to be a recurring theme this year….  lol!  This session was complete with several wildlife adventures and provided for plenty of hilarity and some hiccups – like actual hiccups!  But at the end of the day it was about the photos and it was about Haley so let’s get to the pics shall we?

Hey Hey Haley!

We started in the studio with one of our fancy chairs and the black background – love this!

Hey Hey Haley

She looks amazing!

We didn’t spend a ton of time in the studio but we do have a behind the scenes broadcast replay from inside that we did on Periscope – you can download the app and follow us at @FrameableFaces at this link or you can just watch from Twitter here.

Time to head outside…

Hey Hey HaleyWe love these types of photos in the meadow – we had just a hint of fall pop in the background and the lighting was really nice – the conditions were great that day!  We have plenty of behind the scenes from the location(s) too, starting with a broadcast replay from Facebook Live:

Before we get to the last couple of photos we are including here the Snapchat story from the session because, well…..it’s funny (remember I said something about wildlife adventures)!  Plus you’ll also see where the fam jumped in for a photo!  Stuart, Donna and Maddy!

Here’s another fab photo from outside…

Hey Hey Haley

Sooooo pretty!

One more broadcast…

….and one more photo of Haley!

Hey Hey Haley

Yasssssss!

So once again we say hey hey Haley – your session was highly awesome!  We hope you all enjoyed the highlights from our day with Haley!

Elizabeth Elicits Oohs and Aahs On Her Senior Session!

We’ve known Elizabeth a long time going back to elementary school days with our daughter and we hadn’t really “hung out” with her in a while.  We’ve seen her around town sure but this was so much fun on so many levels – for starters when she came in for her consultation we were struck by how grown up she had become and how much she sounded like her mom Lorie!  So cute – totally like a mini Lorie.  She’s a sharp cookie and an athlete – the girl has it all, and we knew this would be a fun session.  You’ll see below as Elizabeth elicits oohs and aahs!

Then, when she showed up the day of her session made up and ready to roll she looked beautiful!  That’s where the oohs and aahs started (haha).  And what was really cool was with their busy schedules it worked out better for her dad Adam to come to the session and we really had a great time.  Conditions were great and so off we went!

Elizabeth Elicits Oohs and Aahs…

We started in the studio and did a little shooting on the black background with our “black and blowy” setup – this is a great one to start with:

Elizabeth Elicits

Great huh?

Meanwhile here is the first of some behind the scenes broadcasts we did during our day – this one is from Periscope and you can follow us and be a part of the broadcasts at this link or you can just watch from twitter as well by following us there at this link:

Now as we get set to head outdoors for some location photos let’s have a little fun with the Snap story we posted that day on Snapchat!

Now it’s time to head outside for the location part of the session, and here we’ll give a little shout out on the makeup by Francie Paull Fruitman!

Elizabeth Elicits

Love the meadow photo…

As you see from the title of the second Periscope we were out there in the “golden hour” when the sun is going down and the lighting is amazing… and we have that little pop of fall color that we love!

Elizabeth Elicits

We also have a little more behind the scenes action too from Facebook!

And we’ll leave you with this last photo from the session…

Elizabeth Elicits

So we were happy to share and have Elizabeth elicit more oohs and aahs from you all!  We hope you enjoyed these highlights from our day with her!

Caitlin (and Patrick) On A Perfect October Day For Senior Photos!

So this is indeed the story of Caitlin’s senior session which took place on a perfect October day in Birmingham, Michigan!  But Patrick was a welcome addition and companion and he helped make the session even more fun!  Patrick is a girl’s best friend – a young Collie with plenty of energy, and he posed quite nicely for a couple of shots!

Meanwhile we enjoy Caitlin a lot and her mom Deborah is a delight too!  We had plenty of fun and laughs on this bright sunny and warm day!  Actually the warm weather lasted much longer than usual this year and that made for more days like this deeper into senior season than you can usually expect…  Besides, Caitlin’s session was almost all on location so we got to enjoy a beautiful day.

Caitlin (and Patrick)…

Let’s start with the girl and her pup:

Perfect October Day

So fun!!!

Here’s the replay of the live Periscope broadcast from this part of the session.  If you want to be a part of our broadcasts in the future you can download the app and follow us at @FrameableFaces here, or you can just watch from Twitter!

Next we moved over to a couple of our fave spots to focus on the girl with the awesome red hair for the rest of the session…

Perfect October Day

Perfect October Day

Ooooh that backlight though!

We went live for another Periscope broadcast while we were at it too…

….and time for another outfit change!

Perfect October Day

We took to Facebook Live as well for some more behind the scenes fun as we moved into downtown Birmingham – check it out!

We’ll leave you with this last photo from the city…  love the lamp post shot!

Perfect October Day

And there you have it – a perfect October day with a fantastic girl!  We hope you enjoyed the highlights of our day with her!

26 Of The Best Frameable Faces Vines Of All Time

***Note*** This post was written shortly before the announcement one week later that Twitter was getting rid of Vine, so this collection of Vines was looking like an epitaph of sorts (and a fun one at that), but wait!  Not so fast….as two weeks later they announced they might save it by selling it….  Stay tuned.  In the meantime enjoy!

We love Vine!  Yes it’s not very popular anymore but we have had a lot of fun there over the last few years…  We have posted 354 vines since our very first one on June 11th, 2013 when it finally became available for Droid (right before we switched to iPhones) and they’ve been watched a total of 223,603 times as of this writing!  We’ve had some great moments here at the studio and a lot of fun with Vine’s 6 second looping format, so I thought it would be fun to select some of the best and feature them in one post.  Vine is a great way to tell stories in a condensed way and in most cases for us they are repurposed from another platform like Periscope, Snapchat or Facebook Live!  Here we have 26 “for your looping pleasure” as I usually like to say on this blog.  So we have 26 vines at 6 seconds each.  That’s 26×6=156/60 = 2.6 total minutes so you should be able to zip through these in no time!!!  So here we go in reverse chronological order…

26 of our best vines

This was a recent senior session with Reed which was a classic… We spent a day in Detroit and one of those merry peddling bars of partiers came by and jumped into a photo – oh and there was a wipe out.  It’s all captured in 6 seconds….  haha!

We spoke at Podcast Movement in Chicago this past summer and on a break we decided to mess with a few people, well….because it’s fun.

Also on this Chicago trip we photographed our first senior session in the Windy City – it was a such a cool experience with Taria!

Snapchat shenanigans…. and uh – well, yeah……

This vine is legendary – the “sharting baby” will never be forgotten….

Angela our event photographer is a complete sweetheart and always game for some fun!

Here’s a bit from our panel discussion when we spoke at Summit Live (known at the time as the Periscope Community Summit) in San Francisco – Ally singing my praises of course….

So yes we’ve been married for over 20 years but Ally can’t finish ALL of my sentences….

Not gonna lie, it’s fun to feature Jason Carr and Taryn Asher since they are such a well known and beloved couple in this town from their roles on the local news…  But this session was notable for being the first and only (so far) family winter photo session and a photo from this day is displayed in the window of our studio.

Part of our “Periscope war” with Ryan Bell when he made a would-be-innocuous comment about those of us who were early adopters of live video being geeks and nerds with regard to online technology.  Well……Ally took it personally.

This one cracks us up because our senior Mario Kakos went with the Mario Brothers theme for one of the shots on his senior session…  Hilarious.

The word of the day was Eureka….  hehe

We were part of a lip sync train on Periscope – here’s a clip…. haha

Tom is the glue that holds the mall together and he visited us one day during a live broadcast and then….we’re not sure!  LOL!

More from the Ryan Bell wars….. Ryan made a Periscope “troll account” called Flammable Feces – it’s a long story.  He even used our logo!  Well I guess I freaked out a little…..

Vines

My old buddy Aaron Norvell is an actor in Hollywood and he came by the studio for pretty memorable visit….

Christian’s session was epic – an evening session that went long after sundown, and while we light footballs and volleyballs on fire all the time, it’s not every day that we light a trombone on fire!

Ally really enjoys the opportunity to teach and to give back and on this day she had a group from BBYO here through the Building Entrepreneurship program!

Claire gave us the infamous “frog incident”…. haha

Loved getting Elise’s reaction to Alanah’s prints when she came to pick them up!

Loved this family session with the Kamens!  What an awesome crew…

Here’s Ally being interviewed by Kam Carmen for a feature Fox 2 News did on us!

This was actually Ally’s revenge on former “mascot” turned spokesmodel Mara Cranis!!!

Here’s what prompted it….

Sometimes you need to get creative like with off camera flash at a natatorium like on Danny McNeese’s senior session!

Our very first vine!!!  Back to where it all started!

So there it is!  You can see our Vines on twitter as well if you don’t have the app, and we hope you enjoyed this fun trip through our past Vines!

Blake Is A Bad Dude And He Brought It On His Senior Photo Session!

Blake is a bad dude and what a senior session we had with him!  As for him being a bad dude let me explain…  We’ve known Blake and his mom for a bit and our son Tony actually was on the swimming team with Blake in middle school – even back then Blake was blowing people out of the pool.  He’s a heck of an athlete.  But part of being a bad dude is also being nice to your mom and Blake appears to have a great relationship with his mom Carol who joined us.  He’s just a mild mannered enjoyable guy to be around!  He plays guitar too so he is really well rounded.  Overall those are the things that make him a bad dude!

First to Pontiac…

Blake was really prepared with the style – Ally loves pink shirts on guys and he had his letter jacket, a formal look, and his guitar too.  We had a great game plan to head to Pontiac and get some edgy shots and that’s what we did first so we will start there:

Bad Dude Blake

Self assured and cool!

Next we have a nice one in the letter jacket.

Bad Dude Blake

Before we get to a couple more let’s see some of the behind the scenes from the day.  First with our 6 second looping vine which includes Blake playing a couple chords from “All Along The Watchtower” in front of a huge Jimi Hendrix canvas!

So cool!

Next we have the extended replays of our Periscope broadcasts.  You can join in our broadcasts in the app at @frameablefaces at this link or you can watch them live on twitter as well.

First in Pontiac:

Next as we head back indoors here is the broadcast from the Frameable Faces studio!

Bad Dude Blake

Here are a couple of studio photos – they are awesome.

Bad Dude Blake

GQ all the way…

And lastly here’s a little boyish charm in the pink!

Bad Dude Blake

So there it is – Blake is a bad dude indeed and we hope you enjoyed our highlights of our day with him!

6 Secrets About Senior Pictures The Government Is Hiding

The government knows PLENTY about high school senior pictures – trust me.  Do not think for a second that they would ever let these secrets get out if they could plug all the leaks.  At great risk to my well being I am going to share these secrets with you because, well, I think they are important darn it.  So here are 6 secrets about senior pictures the government is hiding:

6 secrets about senior pictures

Photographs in the Carol M. Highsmith Archive, Library of Congress, Prints and Photographs Division.

1.  Senior pictures could stop North Korea.  If you saw this recently you know the story goes that Kim Jong Un is making all men in North Korea get his style of haircut.  Our seniors are all about individual expression and being themselves.  Someone told me that they heard someone tell someone else that a friend said… our government is planning to unleash a bunch of our senior pictures on the North Korean population to incite an overthrow of Kim Jong Un when the people of North Korea realize how nice it looks to express yourself with any style of hair you like.

2.  Senior pictures are fun.  Okay this is a BIG one.  I’m going to guess that being a senator for example is not nearly as fun as taking senior pictures.  The government has tons of sealed files on just how fun senior pictures are and they do NOT want you to know.  Maybe the government is just jealous.

3.  Aliens love senior pictures.  That is the real story behind Hangar 18.  Aliens came to Earth to pass out wallets.

4.  Senior pictures make Presidents.  Sure this doesn’t always fit the narrative of character-shaping events they want you to focus on like George Washington chopping down a cherry tree (okay maybe that’s a bad example since there were no cameras during George Washington’s time nor were there “high schools”) or Teddy Roosevelt charging up San Juan Hill in the Spanish American War – but there are plenty of sealed documents that prove it was how most of our leaders felt about their awesome senior pictures that set them on the path to the White House.

5.  The government spied on Soviet on-location senior photo sessions during the Cold War.  Decades before senior photos became really popular in the U.S.A. some Soviet photographers were going out on location with high school seniors.  Apparently much like everything else during that time we viewed this as a communist threat, because, well, it was the Soviets.  The whole thing was short lived since the Soviets scuttled the on location program anyway, presumably because the pictures were boring.  The photographers were hired by the Soviet communist regime and were not allowed to be very creative.

6.  The government tried to limit outfit changes during senior sessions.  This was just one of those silly “government getting too big” things.  The bill was defeated when it was revealed that term limits have nothing to do with outfit limits and that freedom of expression does apply to clothing.

I know that exposing these secrets can put me at great risk but I felt it was my duty to help my fellow Americans.  Hopefully the government won’t get mad and do anythi

An Interview with Reflecto!

Those of you who have been on location with us have very likely met Reflecto.Interview with Reflecto  He’s our sometimes rogue, somewhat snarky, and quite often arrogant reflector.  He is really a character and while sometimes he gets a little out of line he’s definitely never boring, so we thought we would sit down for an interview with Reflecto and find out what’s on his mind….

FF:  Let’s get right to it – it’s been said that you are a sometimes-rogue, somewhat snarky, and even arrogant reflector.  Is that fair?

Reflecto:  Listen, haters are gonna hate, so let ’em is what I say.  It’s pretty simple.  If I am awesome and I say so does that make me the bad guy for speaking the truth?

FF:  Okay…..  Uh – we won’t try to answer that question.  How about you tell us about your childhood?

Reflecto:  I try not to talk about my past too much.  My family moved around a lot and had various jobs – wrapping York peppermint patties, getting odd jobs as foil – stuff like that.  I decided when I was old enough that I would never settle and I was able to snag this gig with Frameable Faces.  Now I run the place!  Haha!  Follow me on twitter at @reflect_o!  Winning!  I’m the be-

FF:  Hey easy – let’s stay on topic okay?

Reflecto:  Whatever – fine.

FF:  What was your best moment on a photo shoot?

Reflecto: When you are supremely talented like me there are just too many to choose from.  I enjoyed smacking Doug in the face on a shoot once.  It was quite genius really – I waited for a really windy day and then “bam”!  I really think he just thought it was the wind that caused it.  Hahaha!

FF:  You must have other moments that don’t involve violence…

Reflecto:  Okay I’ll admit that I do get some satisfaction when my beautiful reflecting makes a senior look great.  It definitely validates how great I am, and if the #frameables (yes I’ll appease Doug and Ally and call them that) are happy as a result then that’s a bonus.

FF:  Who is Blocko?

Reflecto:  I don’t know what you’re talking about.

(side note – “Blocko” is Reflecto’s alter ego and he’s nicer than Reflecto – we’re not sure why he didn’t want to talk about it)

FF:  We know that sometimes you try to blind the frameables by reflecting the sun into their eyes.  Do you think they deserve that?

Reflecto:  The media embellished that story.  My talent can be “blinding” – whoever made that comment meant it figuratively not literally.  Like Michael Jackson told Paul McCartney I’m a lover not a fighter.
