A Joyous Senior Session With Jubilee!

We knew we were in store for a joyous senior session with Jubilee because this girl makes us smile every time we are with her!  When you look up the word “jubilee” in the dictionary you see words like “celebration” and “rejoicing” and words like that are fitting when she’s around.  She just lights up the room when she walks in – so at the risk of embarrassing her, yes – we like to gush about her!

You might remember Jubilee from her spokesmodel session earlier this year and we have been so happy to have her representing our studio.  At that time we wanted to focus the location portion of the shoot on an urban theme, so this time around we spent most of the session with a pretty and natural setting which we did at a private location.

We had a lot of fun together on this morning, and we had a little luck too because the forecast was not looking good as of the day before, but it cleared up and we had a perfect morning after all.  Even Jubilee’s pup Simba got into one of the photos!

We’ll leave you with one more shot on location before we head back to the studio to wrap it up….  So beautiful with the waterfall in the background!

Here is our fun behind the scenes vine of the morning…

As you can see in the vine we played with fire as we often do when we got back to the studio!  We also acquired a new chair which we were anxious to break in and Jubilee really wanted to be the first – so as we always do we name a new spot or prop after the first senior to use it.  So now it’s “Jubilee’s chair” (even though Reflecto tried to claim it first)!

So there you have it!  We hope you enjoyed these highlights from Jubilee’s Joyous Senior Session!  We certainly did!

A Lovely Birthday Afternoon With Lauren!

As promised the following photos are selections from a lovely afternoon with Lauren which  followed our pretty morning with another Lauren.  It was “a day of Laurens” here at Frameable Faces!  Both sessions had elements that made them particularly special, and in this case our senior was looking beautiful on her birthday!  We were honored to be able to share some of it with her, and the results speak for themselves!

Most afternoon sessions start in the studio so that if we are going on location and it happens to be sunny we can have the sun lower in the sky which is better for lighting.  So with Lauren we started with our black and blowy set up and she really nailed it – just striking…

Afternoon With Lauren

Lauren’s pretty blonde hair looks fantastic against the black background and we stuck with the black for this full length photo:

Afternoon With Lauren

Next we headed outside for some location photos – we ordered such a perfect day for Lauren’s birthday!

Afternoon With Lauren

Another nice element of this session was that Lauren’s stylist came along for the entire shoot, so if her makeup needed a little touch up or her hair needed a little adjustment she had the assistance she needed.  That was a first for us and Tanyel Thomas deserves a shout out for doing a great job with Lauren.

Here is our fun (and “fierce” haha) behind the scenes vine of the day…

A Pretty Morning With Lauren!

A pretty morning with Lauren was a great way to start the day, and in fact it was a unique day in that we photographed a Lauren in the morning and another Lauren in the afternoon!  That has happened once before in Frameable Faces history that we know of.  Meanwhile our “morning Lauren” was a younger sibling of a past Frameable Faces senior which is always special for us, and that is the session we are highlighting here!

We started out on location for this session as we typically do in the morning so that if it’s sunny we can capture photos with the sun lower in the sky.  The conditions were perfect after what had been looking like a potentially shaky forecast which was a good sign that luck would be on our side this day.

Morning With Lauren

Love the effect of the lily pads in the background on the one above!

Here are a few more from the location portion of the shoot.  Love the pop of color on Lauren’s dress against all the natural green around…!

And those eyes!  🙂

Hey It’s Helene!!!

“Hey it’s Helene!” is what we said when she showed up with her mom and little sister to talk about booking a senior photo session with us.  We have known her since she was little, and anytime we photograph a senior we have known since she was little it’s a surreal day for us…  Helene isn’t supposed to be this beautiful high school senior yet.  Time is certainly flying by and maybe we are getting old!  But this isn’t about us – it’s about Helene!  And what a sweetheart and what a session!  Let’s start in the studio with a black and blowy shot – Helene looks fantastic here!

Hey It's HeleneNext we headed out on location and we had a perfect day!  Not too hot or humid and great lighting.

Here is a behind the scenes vine with a couple highlights of the day – you can see where we did the black and blowy…

Sara In The City!

Sara in the city was a big hit!  Senior season is in full gear and we are photographing the class of 2015 pretty much non stop at this point.  We will have plenty more of these posts coming up as we are able to churn them out, and we are thrilled to bring you photos from this fantastic city session with Sara!  But before we go out to light up the night let’s start back at the beginning of the session with an adorable studio shot!

Sara’s mom Kelly was inspired by two different photos on the wall of our studio – one of a little girl looking over her shoulder and another of a one year old holding a massive lollipop – she came up with the idea of combining the two and Sara pulled it off for a memorable and adorable look!

After a little more studio work we hit Birmingham for some nighttime fun, and once the sun went down we broke out our location lighting (off-camera light box, Westcott Ice Light) and Sara really turned it on.  Lynyrd Skynyrd’s tour bus was parked outside the Townsend Hotel so we used it.  Pretty cool huh?

Alesha Leads The Way For The Class of 2015!

Alesha leads the way for the class of 2015 with these photos from her spectacular senior session!  You already saw 14 members of this class as spokesmodels and those are “our” sessions where we test out new ideas.  We wrapped those up and now going forward the class of 2015 sessions belong to the seniors!

As for Alesha we have become very big fans of this girl in a very short time and we were very excited to photograph her.  We were itching to get going with our new seniors and we already had one rain out so we were not happy when we woke up to pouring rain and even some thunder on the morning of her scheduled photo shoot.  We had our eyes on the hourly forecast and it stayed pretty true to the prediction of better weather in the afternoon so we kept the appointment and crossed our fingers…

We started in the studio with our black background:Alesha Leads

Next we moved over to the white, but with a blue gel.  Using colored gels over our lights allows us to manipulate the color a bit which gives us a cool look.  Alesha looks great in the red against the blue!  This would probably be a good time to give a shout out to Gloria at The Beauty Lounge for the makeup with this close-up!

Alesha Leads

At this point we were ready to head outside and as luck would have it “outside” was ready for us!  The weather cleared up and we had a perfect afternoon!  Here is a fun little vine with a couple highlights of the day:

Love love love these next two photos – the lighting and all the green in this one is amazing!  Alesha has a natural and easy smile and this photo just works.

Alesha Leads

Alesha was a trooper – it’s a little yucky where she got in the water and she stood there and waited for one very large cloud to pass so we could get the lighting we wanted!  We took a series of photos here and here is one we like that has a bit of a unique look in black and white.

Alesha Leads

We enjoyed our time with Alesha and we are so glad to know her!  We hope you enjoyed these photos!

6 Secrets About Senior Pictures The Government Is Hiding

The government knows PLENTY about high school senior pictures – trust me.  Do not think for a second that they would ever let these secrets get out if they could plug all the leaks.  At great risk to my well being I am going to share these secrets with you because, well, I think they are important darn it.  So here are 6 secrets about senior pictures the government is hiding:

6 secrets about senior pictures

Photographs in the Carol M. Highsmith Archive, Library of Congress, Prints and Photographs Division.

1.  Senior pictures could stop North Korea.  If you saw this recently you know the story goes that Kim Jong Un is making all men in North Korea get his style of haircut.  Our seniors are all about individual expression and being themselves.  Someone told me that they heard someone tell someone else that a friend said… our government is planning to unleash a bunch of our senior pictures on the North Korean population to incite an overthrow of Kim Jong Un when the people of North Korea realize how nice it looks to express yourself with any style of hair you like.

2.  Senior pictures are fun.  Okay this is a BIG one.  I’m going to guess that being a senator for example is not nearly as fun as taking senior pictures.  The government has tons of sealed files on just how fun senior pictures are and they do NOT want you to know.  Maybe the government is just jealous.

3.  Aliens love senior pictures.  That is the real story behind Hangar 18.  Aliens came to Earth to pass out wallets.

4.  Senior pictures make Presidents.  Sure this doesn’t always fit the narrative of character-shaping events they want you to focus on like George Washington chopping down a cherry tree (okay maybe that’s a bad example since there were no cameras during George Washington’s time nor were there “high schools”) or Teddy Roosevelt charging up San Juan Hill in the Spanish American War – but there are plenty of sealed documents that prove it was how most of our leaders felt about their awesome senior pictures that set them on the path to the White House.

5.  The government spied on Soviet on-location senior photo sessions during the Cold War.  Decades before senior photos became really popular in the U.S.A. some Soviet photographers were going out on location with high school seniors.  Apparently much like everything else during that time we viewed this as a communist threat, because, well, it was the Soviets.  The whole thing was short lived since the Soviets scuttled the on location program anyway, presumably because the pictures were boring.  The photographers were hired by the Soviet communist regime and were not allowed to be very creative.

6.  The government tried to limit outfit changes during senior sessions.  This was just one of those silly “government getting too big” things.  The bill was defeated when it was revealed that term limits have nothing to do with outfit limits and that freedom of expression does apply to clothing.

I know that exposing these secrets can put me at great risk but I felt it was my duty to help my fellow Americans.  Hopefully the government won’t get mad and do anythi

Hanging Out With Mitchell (and Teddy) – a Boy and His Dog!

Hanging out with Mitchell (and Teddy) was really a great time!  It’s always fun when pets are included in a senior session and this was no exception.  Mitchell is a great guy – a personable and accomplished young man and his dog Teddy is not so bad either!  Let’s take a look…

We started off in the studio with a suit coat and dress shirt in front of the grey background.  We usually like at least one formal look like this one for the guys and Mitchell has a cool confidence that comes through in this photo.

Hanging Out With Mitchell

Then we headed out on location – in this case to Mitchell’s house where we met Teddy, Mitchell’s pup and Mitchell’s delightful mom hung out with us as well.  Teddy was pretty funny sprinting around in circles and generally having a blast of a time!  There were a few really nice textures and backgrounds for us to work with there and Mitchell did a great job.

Springtime Spokesmodeling With Gabrielle!

Yes let me repeat that title – SPRINGTIME spokesmodeling with Gabrielle!  We finally got a picture with some green in it for our last (but definitely not least) spokesmodel from the upcoming senior class of 2015!  We have put a wrap on our spokesmodel sessions and now we are preparing for senior photo sessions starting next month.  Yes we have already started booking them and no it’s not too early to get on the schedule for yours!  So with that said, let us get to a few stunning photos from Gabrielle’s session shall we?

Springtime Spokesmodeling

We have actually photographed Gabrielle before and gotten to know her family over the last couple years which always adds another element of fun for us.  As with every one of our female spokesmodels this year we started out in the studio briefly with our “black and blowy” set up which is always a winner.  Gabrielle landed this shot with perfection!

Next we went outside on what started out as a rainy day which we were a little nervous about.  The color came a little late this year with the brutal winter we had and it was this day or bust based on our schedules.  But the sun did indeed come out and we also had the advantage of an assistant and location scout on this shoot – Gabrielle’s boyfriend J. Edward!  That was a first for us and he really added to the proceedings.  What a great guy and a great help on the session!

Springtime Spokesmodeling

Ahhhh – now doesn’t that look nice?  Here is our fun behind the scenes vine from the day:

One More Leah – Spokesmodeling In The Sun!

This year we have two Leahs representing our studio as spokesmodels!  We have had a great time photographing both of them so far and their spokesmodel sessions were the polar opposites of each other – literally!  Our first Leah was outside in the snow with huge fluffy flakes, while our latest Leah went spokesmodeling in the sun!  We will get to those in a second.  We started in the studio so let’s kick it off with this fun and playful shot!

Spokesmodeling in the sun

Leah was one of the first spokesmodels we met with this year and the way the schedule worked out we decided to slot her for a warmer weather session.  We have mentioned in our last few posts that we are focusing much of our last few spokesmodel sessions on getting as many outdoor photos as possible.  Now that the weather has warmed up we are happy to be outside in some of our favorite locations.

Spokesmodeling in the sun

We have used the stone wall above before and we love it here with this close up!  The close up really draws you right in to Leah’s pretty hazel eyes.  Next we moved to the barn which is really popular as a backdrop, and this next shot is fantastic.  Great dress, great pose and we love the backlight on Leah’s hair!
