Melanie’s Gorgeous Golden Afternoon!

Melanie’s gorgeous golden afternoon was a memorable one to be sure.  Gorgeous because of the weather, the locations, and, well…. Melanie of course!  Golden as in the standard, going for the best, and medals – lots of them!

Now that’s a lot of gold!  Melanie is clearly an accomplished gymnast with all of that hardware and it’s fun to have seniors show off their achievements!  We started out the session in the studio and we were able to get some great photos in addition to the medal shot.  Then it was time to take it outside where we had some fantastic light and the locations were awesome!

First we went to one of our favorite meadows where plenty of flowering is going on these days.  This is a beautiful time of year and you’ll see us posting plenty of photos of this style as we go along.  As for Melanie, she looks right at home and comfortable in this natural and pretty setting!  The backlight on her hair is just beautiful!

We would also like to give a little shout out to Shifra Raskin for Melanie’s makeup down the hall from our studio at Style The Salon!  Here is our fun behind the scenes vine of the afternoon including the never-before done “double dock shot”!  Haha!

Next we went to her home where we used some pretty landscaping.  Just a really nice lush green environment which makes the peach colored dress really pop…  Golden Afternoon

Lastly, we captured what is turning out to be one of our favorite water shots of all time!  What a trooper to be in the water that deep in the dress, and Melanie makes it look effortless.  What a great photo to finish up the session with!

Patience and Prettiness With Katie!

Patience and prettiness are both virtues right?  Katie has both and they are both reasons she will always have a special place in our hearts.  Let me explain…

Each year we put a lot of fun (it doesn’t feel like work) into preparing for our new class of seniors.  We come up with themes and new approaches, we up our game on our instagrams or vines and prepare prepare prepare.  We photograph some spokesmodels over the winter and put it all out there in anticipation of a whole new round of new seniors and new friends.  And then the calls start coming – and Katie’s mom made the first official call of the class of 2015 looking to book a session for senior pictures!  That first call is always one we will remember.  And then her date came… and so did the rain!  So we had to reschedule her for after camp, but as you’ll see here – it was worth the wait!

People ask about photographing at Cranbrook but there are restrictions.  One of the exceptions involves being a student there which Katie is and we were able to take advantage of the wonderful settings on campus there.  Our lighting and conditions were perfect, and Katie looked beautiful!

Simply Sierra On A Perfect Sunny Morning!

We photographed Sierra on a perfect sunny morning for her senior session!  Sierra has been representing our studio as a spokesmodel this year and for her spokesmodel session we were completely in the studio.  We used basketballs, fire, huge fluffy hearts and tutus and it was fantastic.  After doing all that during the winter we were excited to get outdoors to get, well…. photos of simply Sierra!  After some potentially shaky looking forecasts we ended up with a gem of a morning…

Love the flower in her hair!  Sierra nominated both Ally and me for the ALS ice bucket challenge (which we did) a few days before her session so we let her think we were going to get her back somehow on the day of her session (but of course we wouldn’t do that).  Sierra has a great personality – very outgoing and she’s funny, and as the baby in a family of athletes she and I personally have a lot in common!

The lighting on this next shot is great – it was hitting this pathway just right and Reflecto helped out too…

When we met for our consultation Sierra had a few specific spots that she liked at several different places, and since we were spending our entire time on location our strategy was to stay on this side of town where we could drive and cherry pick spots from multiple locales and it worked out well!

Just Jared, His Jersey, His Jacket, and some FIRE!

Just Jared, his jersey, his (letter) jacket and some fire was all we needed for this awesome session with our nephew!  Yes – our nephew!  Talk about surreal – we can remember when he was born like it was yesterday and he’s the oldest of the next generation in my family.  Of course this means our own kids won’t be that far behind.  Wow.  But we still have time to ponder that – in the meantime let’s get to Jared’s session which was photographed exclusively in the studio and it rocked.

That’s a good looking kid right?  Yeah – and so what if we’re biased?  #sorrynotsorry hehe….  Ally had fun messing with him and getting him to laugh and we all had a good time.  We played around with a few different backgrounds and we really like the way this next photo looks in black and white on the white background.

There is a strong sports tradition in my family and Jared is one of a couple of the next generation specifically carrying on the football part of that tradition, so next it was time to break out the jerseys and letter jacket and as we often like to do – FIRE!

The official colors of the Walled Lake Northern Knights are maroon, silver, and black so using the black background for the jersey was perfect and we liked the idea of the letter jacket against the grey background which matches the silver pretty well.  Take a look:

That’s a nice one to end on.  All we needed was just Jared, his jersey, his jacket, and some FIRE and the results were perfect.  We had a great time with our nephew and we hope you enjoyed these photos!

Elated To Be With Ellery Again!

Elated to be with Ellery again was how we felt about her senior session!  We have had a fun year getting to know her as a spokesmodel for our studio and we were looking forward to this!  Her spokesmodel session took place during the brutal winter we had at the beginning of the year, and it was completely indoors but the results were so spectacular that she didn’t feel the need to do any more studio work so this time we went all outdoors and it certainly paid off…

Ellery Again

Ellery aspires to sing and model which she has been working on, and when it comes to posing for photos she really is incredible.  Many of our seniors are great at posing – that’s not unusual, but Ellery is clearly talented in this regard.  Ally never has to give her much direction since Ellery knows how to stand, turn, smile, not smile – it’s so easy with her.  The conditions were perfect on this day and Ellery was looking great!  We love the way she rocks the serious look…

Here is our behind the scenes vine of the day and as you will see the photo above was actually taken on a covered bridge which is how the cool wooden pathway Ellery is standing on comes into play:

This next shot is a lot of fun – sometimes you just capture a moment that isn’t posed or really planned and it just works.  Ellery is just in the moment here – having fun, happy and free and that’s how we like to see her!  It’s just great.

Noah’s Future Is Extremely Bright!

Noah’s future is extremely bright indeed!  Fresh from a summer studying out on the West Coast, we spent a morning with him for his senior session and found him to be a pretty impressive guy who really has it together.

This was a session of firsts for us since we found a couple new spots that we had never used before.  For example the barn in the photo above we have photographed many times before but for whatever reason we had not ventured around to the back of it where this cool little wall is, and we love the broken wood down in the corner.  The photo works even better with Noah because he’s a tall guy, and we also love to position seniors off center on a wall like this.  As you will see in our behind the scenes vine below we’ll even have them “look off to their future” for the shot!!!  Haha!

See?  We told you he has a bright future!  We then grabbed a shot in between some nearby trees and we love the way this one turned out…

Then we did a little venturing off the beaten path where we found the cool little bridge that you see in the vine.  It is a ground level bridge with a little creek running below it and it’s perfect!  Of course now it’s going to be “Noah’s bridge” going forward since that’s how we roll.

So after a very successful outing on location we came back to the studio for a couple last shots and got this great one on the simple white background.

Once again, we are glad we met Noah – great kid (not to mention great parents) and we look forward to big things from him.  We hope you enjoyed these photos from his session!

A Joyous Senior Session With Jubilee!

We knew we were in store for a joyous senior session with Jubilee because this girl makes us smile every time we are with her!  When you look up the word “jubilee” in the dictionary you see words like “celebration” and “rejoicing” and words like that are fitting when she’s around.  She just lights up the room when she walks in – so at the risk of embarrassing her, yes – we like to gush about her!

You might remember Jubilee from her spokesmodel session earlier this year and we have been so happy to have her representing our studio.  At that time we wanted to focus the location portion of the shoot on an urban theme, so this time around we spent most of the session with a pretty and natural setting which we did at a private location.

We had a lot of fun together on this morning, and we had a little luck too because the forecast was not looking good as of the day before, but it cleared up and we had a perfect morning after all.  Even Jubilee’s pup Simba got into one of the photos!

As you can see in the vine we played with fire as we often do when we got back to the studio!  We also acquired a new chair which we were anxious to break in and Jubilee really wanted to be the first – so as we always do we name a new spot or prop after the first senior to use it.  So now it’s “Jubilee’s chair” (even though Reflecto tried to claim it first)!

A Lovely Birthday Afternoon With Lauren!

As promised the following photos are selections from a lovely afternoon with Lauren which  followed our pretty morning with another Lauren.  It was “a day of Laurens” here at Frameable Faces!  Both sessions had elements that made them particularly special, and in this case our senior was looking beautiful on her birthday!  We were honored to be able to share some of it with her, and the results speak for themselves!

Most afternoon sessions start in the studio so that if we are going on location and it happens to be sunny we can have the sun lower in the sky which is better for lighting.  So with Lauren we started with our black and blowy set up and she really nailed it – just striking…

Next we headed outside for some location photos – we ordered such a perfect day for Lauren’s birthday!

Another nice element of this session was that Lauren’s stylist came along for the entire shoot, so if her makeup needed a little touch up or her hair needed a little adjustment she had the assistance she needed.  That was a first for us and Tanyel Thomas deserves a shout out for doing a great job with Lauren.

A Pretty Morning With Lauren!

A pretty morning with Lauren was a great way to start the day, and in fact it was a unique day in that we photographed a Lauren in the morning and another Lauren in the afternoon!  That has happened once before in Frameable Faces history that we know of.  Meanwhile our “morning Lauren” was a younger sibling of a past Frameable Faces senior which is always special for us, and that is the session we are highlighting here!

We started out on location for this session as we typically do in the morning so that if it’s sunny we can capture photos with the sun lower in the sky.  The conditions were perfect after what had been looking like a potentially shaky forecast which was a good sign that luck would be on our side this day.

Just A Totally Stunning Family!

Just a totally stunning family is the only way to describe these folks.  We were so happy to hear from them since it had been a while since we photographed them for their Debut parties for both daughters a few years ago.  They are just beautiful people – fun loving, nice, and well, stunning!

We were on the road in Chicago when we got the call that they wanted to come in for a family photo session on a day when they were dressing up to go to a gala reunion event.  The event was 4 days away and we had a slot available so it worked out nicely.  When this family does something they do it in style, and in style was how they arrived at the studio for sure!  One of the primary goals of the shoot was to get a family portrait to replace an older one above their fireplace and this one is a clear candidate for that:

But while we were at it we grabbed some photos of the couple, some of the kids, some of just “the girls” and just “the boys”.  They were changing into outfits with each one more beautiful than the last and the colors just pop against the red background.  What a fantastic session!  Check out the “family hug”!

Now get ready for some crazy trickery – look at the total reverse we pulled off midway through this vine!  Red on white, white on Red!  Ha!!!
