Erin’s “Perfect” Session?

Okay so the title of this post can be a little misleading if we’re singling out this session because we feel that we have lots of “perfect” sessions, so let me explain when it comes to this stunning North Farmington Raider…

High School Senior Portrait

We often joke when we are in a session that if Ally loves the senior she gets over excited and starts firing away burning through the memory card (it happens frequently).  So sometimes during outfit changes or on the way to a location Ally will go through the images on the back of the camera to take out some obvious eye blinks to clear enough room.

High School Senior Picture

So along comes yet another girl we really like who is super nice and looks great and sure enough Ally realizes she’s getting a little crazy with the shutter.  The “problem” this time was that Erin was such a pro there were barely any obviously-less-than-great shots and virtually NO eye blinks!  A perfect session for real?  We’ll let you decide, but either way there’s no doubt it was pretty darn good…  🙂  Enjoy!High School Senior PicturesHigh School Senior Pictures

Twin Seniors Are Twice As Nice!

What a special pair of siblings!  We loved spending time with these two – such nice and personable kids.

When we photograph twins we set aside enough time to photograph each of them individually as well as together and these two clearly enjoy being together!  Instead of going in the order of the session let’s go age before beauty…… by about 15 minutes (haha) and start with Jason – a charming and handsome young lad!  🙂

Now let’s take a look at a few images of beautiful and sweet sis Susie!

Here is where it gets fun – the two of them together!  Adorable!

There’s Something About Zoe

Not sure what we can say about this girl without sounding like we’re going overboard, but let’s just say we are huge fans of Zoe!  She is just the sweetest – funny, personable and downright radiant!

High School Senior Picture

Picking just four images to highlight from this session was a difficult task to be sure.  🙂

Text message indecision

We like to put four pictures in these posts and we try to get a good mix which is what I did but I could have easily picked any of them out of a hat.  They were all great!  🙂

This was a morning shoot and after meeting at the studio we headed out together on location.  It got hot out pretty early but the light was perfect and we had a great time!

We then returned to the studio to finish up where we photographed Zoe on the black backdrop with the fan – one of our favorite setups!  Gorgeous!  All in all a fantastic session!

Amanda’s Amazing Session!

We’ve done sessions at country clubs before, but this session was a first for us – we actually took golf carts out onto the course itself and it makes sense that we’d get fantastic results since golf courses are so picturesque.  And this wasn’t just any golf course – this was one of the most beautiful and prestigious around!

Oh – and as the end of the Vine video above shows, did we happen to mention that we had a stunning senior to photograph at said location….?  🙂

For starters Amanda is a North Farmington Raider which we always have a soft spot for as Raiders ourselves.  She’s an ice skater, she’s pretty, she’s smart, AND she’s sweet.  We started out in the studio – first Ally, Amanda and her mom bonded a little sitting on the floor with clothes laid all around and went through them together, and then we got started.  Here are some highlights…   Enjoy!

Once we were done in the studio we headed out to our location – it was a beautiful day and we had such a fun time!  Amanda’s dad arrived towards the end of the session and we sat and schmoozed for a while after we finished – great family, great session, great senior!

Kevin’s Time

Mother Nature was our friend on this day for sure – we had this session with Kevin scheduled for the morning and when we woke up there was a steady rain outside…

So we started in the studio and worked the water polo angle since Kevin is the captain of his team – for those of you who may not know much about water polo it’s a tough sport – personally I may have played football but I’ve got mad respect for anyone who can handle hand to hand combat, skill and finesse at the same time in a pool!  Talk about needing to be in shape…

Meanwhile the weather magically cleared up and we headed out.  We got some great shots outside after all so it really was Kevin’s time!  Enjoy!

Max – At The Top Of The City!

Photographers listen up – always get permission before you shoot somewhere you suspect you shouldn’t.  It’s not a good idea to trespass….  We had permission to use this location to capture these incredible shots of Max.

High School Senior Pictures

We got way more than we bargained for when we headed out with Max to get some cool urban shots when we happened across an opportunity to scale a fire escape up to the top of a building!  This was a Frameable Faces first!  Max rocked a suit for this session which we certainly encourage more seniors to do.  We love the look!  Very dapper.  Very GQ!

After the city we changed gears for this unique photo of Max surrounded by his collection of soccer jerseys.  We really enjoyed this session – Max brought his own unique approach which made it really cool!

Doug’s Rant – It’s Selfie Time! – August 30, 2013

Let’s celebrate the selfie and give it its due now that it’s become an official addition to the English language!

Selfie word of the year

Whoa – now THAT’S a serious selfie! Amateur photo taken by Doug with his smartphone. 🙂

Yep, that’s right the selfie has a seat at the table and has been validated as a legitimate word as announced by the Oxford English Dictionary this week.  There has been plenty of dialogue and debate about the selfie.  Here is the official definition if you have been living in a cave are not sure what we are talking about…

Selfie: “a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website” – Oxford University Press

Old School Photographer Lament

Some professional photographers lament the popularity of smartphone pics, instagram, selfies and the like.  Some of them worry that these amateur photos are passing for good photos when they’re not, and that this is bringing down the photography profession.

Our Position

We disagree.  We enjoy Instagram, snapchat, and even the occasional selfie.  We use them ourselves and we feel that the more people enjoy everyday photography the more they will appreciate and enjoy professional photos.  Rather than be threatened by it we choose to embrace it and have fun with it.  If a selfie doesn’t make you smile you might be a curmudgeon.  Lighten up!

Just Be Smart About It

As for the negative side of the selfie, you certainly have to use common sense just like anything you do online.  Don’t post pictures of yourself in ways that are inappropriate or that you might regret later and maybe you should consider not completely overdoing it because according to three business schools in Britain too many selfies may actually ruin your relationships!!!

What do you think?  Do you post selfies?  On Selfie Sundays only or all the time?

A Beautiful End To A Wonderful Era

This was a bittersweet senior session but way more sweet than bitter!!!

Senior Portrait

Danielle is the youngest sibling of 4 and we have photographed all 4 of them at one point or another – the latter 3 now for their senior pictures.  We love this family and while we’re sad that this was our last high school senior session with them (that’s the bittersweet part), we have loved getting to know them and working with them all!  We are sure we will always be friends.  🙂

High School Senior Photo

Meanwhile, on to Danielle – what a session!  She is one smart, personable, sweet and beautiful girl.  Danielle did a spokesmodel shoot for us on a nasty winter day that didn’t allow for any location shooting so this time we spent pretty much the whole session outside.  Over the years when we’ve stumbled upon a new spot we haven’t noticed before it has made for some of our favorite photos and the senior who pioneers it gets it named after them such as Rebecca’s tree or Jared’s rock.  This time we found a new spot – a short black wall that was perfect for Danielle!  One of our favorite shots of the session for sure, and now it’s forever hers!  Enjoy!

Stepping Out Into The Spotlight

Jill had an outstanding photo shoot and it’s always special for us when we photograph a younger sibling of one our seniors from the past.  We’ve become very close with Jill’s older sister whom we photographed a couple years ago and with whom we produced some of our most memorable shots.  Meanwhile we had never met Jill until our recent consultation with her to prepare for her own turn in the spotlight…Senior Pictures

WOW!  Such a beautiful, photogenic and sweetheart of a girl!  First we started in the studio:

Next we went on location and got a variety of great shots, but it was at the end where the session produced a new shot for us that we LOVE – a little spontaneous hop onto a swing set that yielded such a fantastic result!  Enjoy!

Another Cool Senior Session In The City!

We proudly present to you pictures from Noah’s senior session!  You’ve probably seen him in our window and on our class of ’14 brochure…  Noah is one of our spokesmodels and we are happy to have him representing our studio!

High School Senior Photo

The other day we posted on facebook that “happiness is photographing North Farmington Raiders” and this was one of the sessions we were referring to.  Noah’s little brother even came along and jumped into one of the photos!

Photo of Brothers

We had a good time and Ally saved a katydid who was hanging out right in front of a door to a parking garage (we think it may have had an injured leg).  In any event we were pleased with the results with the urban setting!  Enjoy!
