A Classic Frameable Family and a Mother’s Day Surprise!

The Stones are legends here – a classic Frameable family!  For starters Cheyenne and Sierra were both seniors here, with a stunning plexiglass of Cheyenne still hanging in the studio and Sierra having represented us as a spokesmodel for the class of 2013 (she’s the first one in this post from back then).  Through working with them we’ve become friends and while Cheyenne and Sierra have graduated college and moved to different states we’ve remained close with their parents Beth and Sheldon back here in Michigan.  So this year we conspired with the girls along with Sheldon to have them both fly home and surprise Beth for a family session for Mother’s Day here at the studio!  It was kind of funny because we had been out with Beth and Sheldon the week before and Sierra called while we were with them and everyone was saying “one of these days” they’ll have to get in to do a family session.  Beth had no clue – it was awesome….

A Mother’s Day Surprise

We were so excited – plus we miss the girls – we love them!  They came to the studio with Wrigley the pup they rescued here at the mall from one of the Detroit Dog Rescue events we have from time to time.  What a blast we had!  Let’s take a look at a few highlights:

Classic Frameable Family

They’re awesome.

We also have plenty of fun behind the scenes action – first with the livestream replay from Facebook Live:

A Classic Frameable Family

Once we got a few of those photos finished we started to switch it up a little – all the different combos – and we love the ones with Beth and the girls and Sheldon with the girls:

Classic Frameable Family

BEAUTIES!!!  #Swoon

And how fun is this one of Sheldon with the daddy’s girls…

Classic Frameable Family

Love it.

We also have the Snapchat story from the session for you from our YouTube channel which is a lot of fun!

We’ll leave you with this a-MAIZE-ing family portrait….

Classic Frameable Family

GO BLUE!!!

And there you have it – a classic Frameable family indeed and such a fun time for us to be with them again!  We hope you enjoyed the highlights of their session!

5 Totally Legit Reasons You Should Join Our Patreon Page!

Patreon is described in Wikipedia as “a membership platform that provides business tools for creators to run a subscription content service, as well as ways for artists to build relationships and provide exclusive experiences to their subscribers, or “patrons.”  We have our own Patreon, we are working really hard on it and we believe in it.  We hope you will join us and here are 5 totally legit reasons why you should.

Patreon

5 Totally Legit Reasons Why You Should Join Our Patreon Page

First of all, Patreon itself is really cool.

Let’s just talk about Patreon for a second if you aren’t familiar with it.  It’s a great website as well as mobile app that is growing and adding features and opportunities constantly.  You can find creators of all sorts to connect with there and subscribe to their page for anywhere from one dollar to $15 per month (and sometimes more for really big rewards) just for various levels of fun basic content.  Artists, musicians, comedians, business gurus, podcasters, vloggers – you name it.  And the creators who rely on this platform to make a living at what they do are generally really thankful for their communities who subscribe for their content.

As an end user you can go on the desktop version and even better download the mobile app.  The creators you subscribe to can upload video, audio, photos, livestreams, links, polls, stories, or just text  right to the app.  So you can listen, watch, comment, and interact with other fans & followers all from your smartphone.  You can access all of these things on demand as you like – a great way to support the people you enjoy on the go.  You’ll love it.

Keep in mind that the best creators on Patreon typically have YouTube channels, blogs, Instagram and Snapchat, and a whole variety of profiles online where they’re sharing free content, but the ones who do it right are giving extra rewards and exclusive content to their patrons because the patrons are paying for it – they definitely appreciate your support.

As for OUR Patreon page, we’ve already posted a TON of stuff there…and we’re adding more.

We aren’t messing around.  We are off to a solid start with a handful of subscribers and we are working really hard to create content exclusively for Patreon.  Heck, part of the impetus for starting Patreon was the fact that people were asking us on our Periscope 📷Doug&Ally📷Morning Show!🎙☕ to do a podcast.  While we thought that would be fun we figured at some point it has to be sustainable for us to keep adding content that isn’t exactly our core business of photography.  Yes our content highlights our brand and is great for promotion but certain content in and of itself has value if we do it right and there are only so many hours in the day – as I said it has to be sustainable.  We felt a podcast along with some other things would fit the bill… so The📷Doug&Ally📷Morning Show!🎙☕………Podcast!  was born…

Patreon

We are having a blast with the podcast, and a shout out goes to the amazing Olivia Thai who supplied the little impromptu beatbox intro that you hear at the beginning of each one which we literally pulled from when she called into our morning show one day!

Meanwhile, we have SO much else to offer, and so we’ve been pouring ourselves into creating content for Patreon much like the courses we have taught here at our studio such as Doug’s teachings in his “2 Hour Social Media Class” and Ally’s “Photography 101” class.  People who follow us outside of the Metro Detroit area had been asking for a way to learn from us or get online courses and now Patreon gives us a way to do that with in-depth tutorials that we upload there.  The feedback on these has been solid (more on that in a bit) and we’ll even take requests on topics that our Patrons want covered specifically.  We do some of these with recordings of our computer screens while we’re walking you through how to create social media content or how to edit a photo in Photoshop.  These are great because you can access them on demand, at your own pace and you can watch them repeatedly.

We’ve added a few other exclusive series there too such as “Entrepreneur Life” where we talk about the highs and lows, thrills and challenges of having your own business – things that we’ve learned and sometimes the hard way…  We even include the occasional blooper!  As of this first writing we are at over 40 pieces of content total, available at the various levels.

You may find if you browse around Patreon overall that there are some who use their page simply as a donation mechanism – a way for their followers to contribute money to support what they are already doing elsewhere.  Not calling anyone out specifically or saying that’s bad per se…  But that’s not our strategy.  If you’re paying for our Patreon, you’re getting your money’s worth ON Patreon.  We’ll even send you a 📷Doug&Ally📷Morning Show!🎙☕ bookmark at the $5 level and up!

Our Patrons Are Happy – they are validating what we are doing there – so take their word for it!

We are getting great feedback so far and there are subscription levels for everybody – from just $2 per month to be included in our private Periscope group – this is a great thing by the way.  Sometimes we just go on Periscope live in a private broadcast just for our Patrons to get feedback, chat or we’ll even livestream there under our own personal profiles @dougcohen10 or @AllyCohen_1 if we feel like waxing poetic on our own passions like music, history, football, parenting – whatever, and the patrons are really enjoying this.  We are getting great feedback so far at all of the various reward levels.  Take a look at some of the comments from the page…

Participation and Community is at the heart of what we do – Patreon is a shining example

We’ve always said we are all the Frameable Faces – sure it’s Doug & Ally – we own the business.  But we’re part of the community just like everyone else, and it’s our peeps that make our studio and it will be our peeps that make the Patreon page too.  Our friend Gareth from the UK is “Pliny The Round” and he’s already been posting in the “Community” tab on the Patreon which is awesome.  The people do and will continue to shape the community there.  We’ve had Patrons make suggestions for things to include in the Podcast and we frequently reach out for feedback.  At this point we are toying with adding Discord to our page (an app much like Slack that gamers have traditionally used for group chat and voice to text around certain topics) which can be integrated with Patreon.  Just another way to bring the community closer together – so we’ll see how Discord plays out.  Regardless, with Patreon since people are subscribing everyone has a vested interest in making it great!

When we share tips we don’t hold back – we pour out our knowledge…

We don’t really horde our secrets.  We subscribe to the idea that sharing helps the community, it helps the industry whether that be social media or photography, and we never have just one main magic sauce really anyway.  Once we’ve shared the sauce we’ve already concocted the next one.  We’re always concocting a new sauce and improving the current sauce, and just because someone took our sauce and tried to make it doesn’t mean they’ll make it exactly how we made it.  If by chance they made it better than us?  Well than that will just give us something to shoot for won’t it?

If you like the way we do things and you think you could learn from us, you will at our Patreon page.  We promise.  Thanks for reading and we hope to you see you there!  We won’t let you down!

Krista Brought Joe & Cutest Parents Jim & Jean By For A Special Session!

Krista and Joe have been to the studio a couple times before for various family photos – some with the kids, but never with just them and Krista’s parents Jim and Jean.  We are so happy they did this because it was much fun and just really so special!  You could just tell this meant a lot to all of them and the behind the scenes from Facebook and Snapchat will give you a sense of that.  Besides Jim and Jean were both a delight to have a little fun banter with – they were great on camera!  We nominate them in the category of Cutest Parents Ever.

Cutest Parents Ever!

These photos were all done in the studio with a couple of outfit changes for Krista and Joe so they could get a few photos together just the two of them.  But first we’re going to focus on the photos that include Jim and Jean, starting with a group photo:

Cutest Parents

Next we have this wonderful photo of Jim and Jean together…

Cutest Parents

So much love in that photo!  And here you can see just how much fun we were having in the behind the scenes livestream from Facebook Live!  Just click on the arrow in the middle of the image below.

We’ll share one of Krista and her mommy before we conclude with one of Krista and Joe…

Cutest Parents

LOVE.

Now we have one of Krista and Joe a bit more dressed up and looking GREAT!

Cutest Parents

Last but not least we decided to upload the Snapchat story to our YouTube channel so we could include it here just because there were a few more great moments there….

So there you have it!  Krista, Joe, and Krista’s cutest parents!!!  We hope you enjoyed the highlights of our time with them!

A Super Springtime Senior Session Junket With Joshua!

We love springtime seniors!  The majority of seniors take their pictures with us throughout the summer and fall but we always get a handful after the winter is over, and when the trees are just starting to bloom it makes for some great scenery!  With Joshua we had good weather too and his mom Gail joined us for some fantastic photos on this senior session junket with Joshua!

First an experiment in the Studio…

Before we share the location shots we actually started in the studio, and Ally has been playing with her lighting, so with our big soft box on the other side of the studio she positioned Joshua in front of it for a high key white background instead of our usual white vinyl backdrop and we got this result – pretty cool!

Senior Session Junket

Here’s a little behind the scenes snippet from this experiment from Facebook Live – check it out!

Now let’s catch up with our location day…

Springtime Senior Session Junket

We stayed in and around West Bloomfield where there are plenty of awesome spots like this one that we call “the slab”.Senior Session Junket

Just chillin’

The other thing that’s cool about Spring seniors is they usually know exactly where they’re going in the Fall.  Sometimes they do in the previous Fall but sometimes they don’t yet…  For Joshua he’s going BLUE and wearing Maize!

Senior Session Junket

For the last photo Joshua put on a pink shirt which always makes Ally happy – Ally loves the guys in pink and we have more behind the scenes fun here on the Intagram Live replay from our YouTube channel:

And here is the result!

Senior Session Junket

Good looking dude!

And there you have it – our senior session junket with Josh!  We hope you enjoyed the highlights of our day with him!

We Were Awed By Audrey On Her Senior Spokesmodel Session!

We are in awe of Audrey!  We were certainly awed by her on her spokesmodel session – what a cool human.  We actually have so much in common with this family it’s scary…  They’ve rescued a bunch of cats – so did we and we still have a couple of them.  Audrey’s dad is in a band.  So is Doug.  They don’t eat meat.  We don’t either….  It just seemed like the planets aligned for us to meet them and Audrey’s mom Michelle is as cool as Audrey – the apple didn’t fall far from the tree.  Audrey herself is a sharp cookie with personality to burn – we gotta say we think we really recruited well for this year’s spokesmodel crew!!!  With Audrey we are also extra excited because she’s our very FIRST Troy Athens Redhawk!!!

Awed By Audrey

So Audrey came ready to roll on a day where the weather forecast kept changing.  It was supposed to be a total rainout, and then it wasn’t, but then it did rain, but then it stopped….. sheesh.  We were prepared to just go all studio but as you’ll see we did make it outside in the end.  We’ll start with the studio though on the black background with the black couch which is a look we love – especially with Audrey’s contrasting blonde hair:

AudreyLove that one!

Next we broke out our grey fabric for the first time with this class of 2019 spokesmodel crew.  We have two greys – the paper and the fabric and we like both a lot.  We also did a little behind the scenes livestreaming for this part on Facebook Live – take a look by clicking on the video below!

And here is one of the grey background results…

Audrey

Stunning.

Dodging the Downpour

Just before Audrey and Michelle arrived at the studio it was pouring outside – we can hear it from the roof above our studio when it comes down hard.  We thought we weren’t going outdoors at all.  But then it stopped and the forecast was showing only “cloudy” with 5%-15% chance of rain the rest of the day.  So we went out.  Right when we got to our location it started raining again and we decided to wait it out for a little bit as we saw our opportunity slipping away….  we were in two cars and we had a group text going…

Audrey

Hehe….

But lo and behold just when we were about to call it a day the rain stopped!  We sprung into action and got a couple more gems – we even got in another livestream on Instagram!

Audrey

Here’s our fun behind the scenes Instagram Live which skips a little because the signal wasn’t great…

We’ll leave you with one more from outside – we were happy to get these because Spring is finally arriving and there’s a little color out there now….

Audrey

And there you have it!  We were certainly Awed by Audrey – we can’t wait to get her in front of Ally’s camera again for her senior pictures!

Making Front PAIGE News With Our Latest Senior Spokesmodel!

We are so thrilled with Paige – we totally connected on her senior spokesmodel session and she is just one of our peeps.  That’s it.  She just is – she totally fits in and we feel like we’ve known her forever.  Her mom Maxine?  Same way.  We just had so much fun, and so Paige is definitely FRONT PAIGE NEWS for our studio as far as we’re concerned and she is representing Frankel Jewish Academy for the senior class of 2019!

Front Paige News

It’s always funny with the spokesmodel sessions when Ally says to me beforehand “okay I don’t want to go too crazy today” because we don’t need a ton of photos for these sessions in order to get some images out into the scene for the upcoming senior class, and yet that’s often what happens.  Very often we just fall in love with our spokesmodel crew and Ally can’t help herself – this session with Paige was a marathon and we probably would have been happy to go longer!  We started in the studio so we could get a few photos on our red paper and the silver metal setups.  First the red with the full length:

Front Paige News

Beautiful!

Next we brought out the silver metal… and we started a Facebook Livestream with Facebook Creator for some behind the scenes fun!  Click on it and check it out!

And here is one of the results…

Front Paige News

Heading Out

At this point we headed outdoors to get a few photos on location and first we returned to an old graffiti wall we haven’t been to in quite some time… this yielded a real winner!  LOVE this one:

Front Paige News

We made one more stop over by the West Bloomfield Library for a few and we did a little Instagram livestream for some more behind the scenes fun – take a look from our YouTube channel!

And we’ll leave you with this last one outside…

Front Paige NewsBeautiful with the backlight and the off camera flash!  Definitely front PAIGE news indeed, and we hope you enjoyed the highlights of our awesome day with her!

A Classic Senior Session With Joe – Classic Indeed!

This was a classic session with Joe – a classic indeed, and on so many levels!  For starters while Joe is not a typical dude at all – he’s actually quite a character – he was very typical in that senior portraits were not really on his radar.  Not uncommon for plenty of guys.  But you see this isn’t our first rodeo, and we know how this usually goes.  The guys get dragged in here and by the time we’re done they’ve had a total blast.  In that sense this was a classic session because that’s exactly what happened….  Now while Joe may not completely admit it because of the sibling rivalry thing we know his big bro Scotty influenced this a little because he had a great time on his session too!

Classic Indeed….

The thing is, that was only the tip of the iceberg as to why this ended up such a classic session!  Joe’s mom Marilyn (whom we LOVE) enlisted the help of a family friend who happens to own a few classic cars including a 1963 Split Window Corvette that we’re pretty sure once belonged to Rick Springfield!  Well Joe is a car freak and the opportunity to take a few photos with this beauty basically landed Joe in heaven.  We’ll get to those in a minute, but in the meantime we also have a couple of other photos with some fire and Joe’s pup that are pretty great too so let’s start there.  First with some Orchard Lake St. Mary’s gear and a flaming bat!

Classic Indeed

Pretty cool!

When we went outside the pup joined in for a portrait of a senior and his best friend – doesn’t get much better than that…

Classic Indeed

1963 Split Top Corvette!

Now to the next level of classic…  we think Joe might have been pretty happy in this photo….

Classic Indeed

You’ll get a little more of an idea as Joe takes this beauty for a spin in our Facebook Live behind the scenes – check it out!

And we’ll leave you with one more:

Classic Indeed

And there you have it!  This session was a classic indeed and you can see why!  We hope you enjoyed the highlights of our time with Joe!

A Vic-TORI-ous Senior Spokesmodel Session For The Ages With Tori!!!

What can we say about Tori and the hands of fate that were all over this story from how and when we found her all the way to the epic spokesmodel session with her and her mom Lora in the YAK!  The “yak” would be Pontiac which is where Tori was born hehe…  Let’s just say we already have multiple inside jokes and stories from our short time knowing each other – we just seemed to fit from the first minute.

It all started with Tori’s mom Lora walking into the studio and asking about senior pictures really early in the game for the class of 2019 at the urging of another senior mom we love while we were (and kinda still are) in recruiting mode for our new crew.  When she told us her daughter went to West Bloomfield Ally and I looked at each other right away and both our wheels were turning…  Next thing you know we had Lora and Tori come for a little pow wow and we knew immediately we wanted her on our team!  The rest is his-TORI!!!  See what I did there?  Let’s see how many ways I can work Tori’s name into this blog post lol…

A Vic-TORI-ous Session

We decided on Pontiac as I mentioned earlier on a fairly chilly day and even with some technical difficulties with Ally’s new off camera flash we still pulled off a handful of outstanding photos!  Let’s get to a few…

Tori

How adorable is she?  Let’s also give a shout out here to Yasmeen at The Beauty Lounge for Tori’s makeup and Natalie at Mandy Rose Studio for Tori’s hair!

Let’s also take a look at the hilarious behind the scenes Facebook Live – we LOVE this girl…. haha!

One more photo outdoors before we move to the next phase…

Tori

Love.  Great style on Tori here and we are pretty pleased with the lighting (when it worked)!  That’s the nice thing about spokesmodel sessions – they are a great opportunity to try out new spots, new equipment and new techniques, and while Ally was a little frustrated fighting with the equipment we do love the results!

At this point we headed over to the Flagstar Strand Theatre which you should check out for a show if you get a chance – what a gem of a venue in downtown Pontiac and special thanks goes to them for the access.  They set us up in the dressing room where we decided on a whim to get a few really fun shots of the star backstage like this one!

Tori

We played around in the theatre and got some cool stuff but the lighting and the angles we tried were a bit challenging.  We’ll go back and try again at some point – you can get a sense of what we were doing in this fun Instagram Live we did from inside…

A couple of behind the scenes shots like the pano I grabbed and the shot Lora took below are pretty cool too – they give you an idea of what we were trying to do even if the finished images weren’t quite ready for prime time…

Tori

Tori

Now we’ll head outside for one more photo which could be our fave of the day with Tori in a cute winter hat…

Tori

Just love that one!!!  Gorgeous girl.

And that’s a great way to end it for now – we are thrilled to have Tori representing our studio and we cannot wait to get her in front of Ally’s camera again!  We hope you enjoyed the highlights of our day!

Claudia Closes In On Awesomeness On Her Spokesmodel Session!

Yes Claudia closed in on awesomeness on her senior spokesmodel session and…. oh heck – what am I saying she totally got to awesomeness!  You’ll see for yourself in a sec…. Claudia is another North Farmington Raider like us so we expected nothing but the best results and we got them on what was a really chilly day, but Claudia was a trooper and along with her mom Sandy we had a blast capturing some awesome images for Claudia to represent the studio for the class of 2019 with!

Claudia Closes In On Awesomeness

We focused mainly on outdoor photos with Claudia in Birmingham and that’s where we’ll start with a couple at Quarton Lake:

Claudia

Stunning!  The shimmering sparkle of the water and the off camera flash makes for a perfectly composed photo with this beauty if we do say so ourselves….

We also have some fun behind the scenes as usual – first with the replay of our Instagram Live video:

And let’s look at one more from the water…

ClaudiaLove it!

At this point we headed over to downtown Birmingham to get a few poses with an urban feel and that gave us this one:

Claudia

We have one more behind the scenes livestream replay for you – this one from Facebook Live:

After the last outdoor shot we warmed up and headed back to the studio to get a few on the black background.  We’re actually doing at least one of these with every spokesmodel this year so we can do something fun with all of the shots at the end…  Love this close up:

Claudia

And there you have it – awesomeness indeed!  Claudia rocked it and we are so happy to have her representing our studio for the class of 2019!!!

Morgan has been on the radar here for a while – usually we’re the ones out recruiting seniors to be our spokesmodels, but this time it was Morgan who recruited us!  You could say that she skated right into our zone, shot and scored, and we’re pretty happy that she did!  In all seriousness, we couldn’t have known that the U.S. Women’s Hockey team would make the type of splash that they did with the gold medal shootout in this year’s Olympics in PyeongChang in such dramatic fashion when we started talking to Morgan, but now that it happened and it has brought women’s hockey into the spotlight more than ever we are even more excited to work with Morgan.  She and her mom Jodi brought so much energy (not to mention cupcakes) to the studio and Morgan personifies everything that is great about these athletes – a sweetheart who can go cute, glam, playful, and pretty but is also dead serious about her hockey and can kick your ass.  We definitely scored a hat trick with spokesmodel Morgan.

A Photographic Hat Trick With Spokesmodel Morgan!

So in this case we’ve got the brains, brawn and beauty hat trick, and we’ll start with the brawn/beauty combo before we go to just beauty – as for the brains you’ll just have to take our word for it!

How cool!!!  We can’t look at this photo without being reminded of last year’s spokesmodel kickoff with another bad ass beauty you may remember – Olivia!  This time Morgan combining the black and blowy setup with the sports theme gave us a killer result!

We also have some behind the scenes fun as usual – first with our Instagram Livestream that we have posted on our YouTube channel – take a look (and we apologize for some of the audio trouble on this one – seems like user error as yours truly may have been covering the mic with a finger or thumb….)!

Moving right along let’s take a look at a couple more outfits and backdrops starting with the Def Leppard rocker chick look!  And why not – Photograph is the best rock song about photography ever isn’t it?  You can actually read about that right here on this blog in this piece I wrote back in 2013 about the top 10 songs about photography, but I digress….    Check out this rockin’ shot of Morgan…

Got a photograph!!!  Picture of!!!

Now let’s go to a change of pace, and style as we move over to the purple and this super cute outfit:

Pretty in Purple!

We have one more behind the scenes livestream too – this time on Facebook Live and this was a fun family affair with many of Morgan’s crew chiming in on the live broadcast – including some hilarious trolling from her little brother.  Hehe…   As a side note this was our very first Facebook Creator livestream that includes the fancy shmancy intro and outro!  Check it out!

We’ll leave you now with one more photo from the brown backdrop with this fun and playful close up of our girl:

Awesome and adorable.

And there you have it – a hat trick indeed and we hope you enjoyed the highlights of our day with Morgan!  The class of 2019 is off to a fantastic start!
